Ten best Daily Iowan stories

1997-1998 | Daily Gazette | Gazette | Dispatch | high school

Many people coming out of high school don't know what they want to do with their lives. I, however, knew exactly what I wanted to be: a reporter.

I started at The Daily Iowan almost before the ink on my high school diploma was dry. My first byline was two weeks after graduation and I quickly fit right in at The Daily Iowan. I worked at The Daily Iowan my first two years in college, covering the courts my first year and the Iowa City City Council my second year.

The Daily Iowan is the student run publication at The University of Iowa. With the right people it can rival the two main competing papers in the city, The Cedar Rapids Gazette and the Iowa City Press-Citizen. That is what I tried to do, beating the two papers to important stories on several occasions.

If you would like to hear more about my experiences at The Daily Iowan, e-mail me at steven_cook@altavista.com.
