Moving from Eastern Iowa to Upstate New York was quite a change for me. I moved out here in June 2000 to cover Montgomery County government for The Schenectady Daily Gazette. And while it hasn't been all I expected, it has been interesting.
I moved out here partly for the job, but also to follow the big Hillary Clinton-Rick Lazio senate race. Coming from Iowa, with its first-in-the-nation caucuses, I'm a big follower of politics. In fact, I followed the senate race out here even before I thought of getting a job out here. Here's a picture of me in action at a January 2002 appearance of Hillary in Glen, NY. Hillary was there to tour a dairy farm. That's me on the left. As you can see by Hillary's expression, I'm tossing her a particularly tough question on dairy policy. I accepted the job out here after working on daily newspapers throughout college, including The University of Iowa's daily, The Daily Iowan, and interning at The Cedar Rapids Gazette and in Ohio at The Columbus Dispatch. There wasn't a time in college that I wasn't writing for one of those three. Although I could have taken a full-time position with The Cedar Rapids Gazette, I wanted to see the world. And for now, the world is Schenectady, New York. Recent books read: Into Thin Air, Island of Lost Maps, Harry Potter I, Harry Potter II, Harry Potter III, Harry Potter IV and Brave New World. Now that you know a little bit about me, send me an e-mail at sacoo@mail.com to tell me what you think. And don't forget to read through my stories using the image to the left.
